China National Opera - East Meets West Opera Spectacular

  • OAACA 87-89 Liverpool Street Sydney, NSW, 2000 Australia (map)

The China National Opera House (CNOH), one of China’s leading national performing arts companies, will make its Australian debut this July to present the Opera Gala with Orchestra at the Melbourne Recital Centre and Sydney Opera House.

Founded in 1952, CNOH is widely recognised for its distinguished roster of singers and musicians and its extensive international touring across Europe, Asia and the Americas. The company represents the highest level of operatic performance in China.

Under the baton of Principal Conductor Yuan Ding, the gala features an outstanding ensemble of vocalists, including leading soprano, tenor, baritone and bass soloists, accompanied by the chamber orchestra of China National Opera House.

The program spans some of opera’s most celebrated repertoire, with highlights from Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Verdi’s La Traviata, Bizet’s Carmen and Puccini’s Turandot, alongside iconic Chinese works such as the Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto and beloved folk-inspired songs.

Marking the centenary of Turandot, the performance includes the world-renowned aria Nessun dorma, building to a powerful full ensemble finale.

More than a gala concert, Opera Gala with Orchestra presents a dynamic cultural dialogue — where Western operatic drama meets the lyricism of Chinese music in a distinctive live experience.

One night only – a landmark cultural event not to be missed.
